How can I import a flexible chart of accounts as a JSON file or create it manually?

If an AbaNinja account is opened with country Switzerland*, a subset of the 126 most important and most used accounts based on the official Swiss SME chart of accounts is created by default.
* Germany: SKR 03 / SKR 04

It is possible to replace this standard SME chart of accounts with a chart of accounts in JSON format or to create your own chart of accounts from scratch. Here you will learn step by step how to import or create such a chart of accounts.

Requirements

• This function is only available with a paid subscription (min. Basic subscription).
• This function is only possible if there is no active Abacus connection.
• There must be no entries on the AbaNinja account.
• Imported charts of accounts in JSON format or self-created charts of accounts created from scratch must have the SME chart of accounts as a basis

Import JSON chart of accounts

Under Settings > Accounting > Chart of Accounts, the standard SME chart of accounts must first be replaced.

In the next step, you can use Import chart of accounts (JSON) to import a chart of accounts in JSON format. Here you also have the option of selecting another predefined AbaNinja chart of accounts or creating the chart of accounts completely manually.

It is important that the JSON chart of accounts to be imported is structured in the following format:

Not just any JSON file can be imported. You will find a template for the chart of accounts in JSON format in the appendix. It is important that the JSON chart of accounts to be imported is structured in the same format.

During an import, the account proposals are also deleted and must be regenerated or entered. AbaNinja can only be used when all account proposals have been defined. 

When generating, the system tries to find existing default account proposals in the new chart of accounts. 

Incomplete account proposals must be entered manually. For this, the corresponding account proposal must be selected and saved with the account you want.

Update account plan

If a chart of accounts was imported in JSON format, it can be updated with another JSON chart of accounts. To do this, the chart of accounts must be updated in AbaNinja under Settings > Accounting > Chart of accounts via the action menu. The prerequisite for this is always that all accounts posted to are also included in the chart of accounts being updated. It is also possible to create levels and accounts manually.
