Canton change of the community of Moutier

Situation

The town of Moutier (postal code 2740) will switch from the canton of Bern to the canton of Jura on January 1, 2026. If you are unsure if you are affected by this change, you can check in the program under Firma – Adressen. Enter "Moutier" in the search field, and all addresses with the town of Moutier will appear.

To ensure that withholding tax, child allowances, and other canton-dependent salary components are correctly calculated from January 2026 onwards, a new address timeline must be recorded by January 1, 2026, with the selection "2740 Moutier JU". The address timeline can be recorded both in the personnel master (Personnel data – Address) and under Firma – Adressen.

Note: There are other addresses besides the employee address that may need to be adjusted. Family allowances are determined by the canton of employment. Therefore, the company address or the address of the relevant place of work must also be adjusted if there is a branch in Moutier.

For cross-border commuters with weekly stays, the weekly stay address must also be taken into account.

Other topics to consider:

For taxpayers subject to withholding tax, the church tax setting may need to be adjusted (Canton JU only knows QST codes with church tax).

QST corrections for the previous year are still possible if the new address timeline is created cleanly and the old timeline is not accidentally changed.
